Hi,

I can open my inbox in Notes 5.0.8 and replicate to my hard disk. I only acces my inbox via a local mail file replica. So when I look at my inbox and double click on an email to open it, I get a "File can not be created" error message.

What does this mean? What should do to be able to read my emails?

Any help much appreciated,
Danny

Looks like your settings are pointing your mailfile from somewhere else. In notes go into FILE->PREFERENCES->LOCATION PREFERENCES.....Under the Mail tab check to make sure the mail file location is really set to local. Also since notes lets you configure multiple location preferences it could be as simple as setting it back to the correct location. Hope this helps some....need some more info if it isn't this, but I have seen this one before.

there is alos a possibility that you r local replica has become corrupt ( i see this at least twice a day ).
if other options don't work, i would suggest :
1. compacting your workspace.
this can be done by righ-clicking on an empty spot on the notes workspace, and choosing "workspace properties". then click on the second tab in the dialogue box ( little spinny hat thing ) and click on the "%used" button. the lower the number is, the better. if it is higher, then click on the "compact" button.
2. recreate your local replica.
to do this, delete the local replica from your HD, and start a brand new replica.

hope this helps.....

Hi all,

THanks for the suggestions. I`ll certainly give them all a try.

But the strange thing with this problem is that if I run Notes Minder, then this error message does not pop up!
If notes minder is running, then I can view all documents in my inbox with no problems, so it doesn`t look like the inbox.nsf file is corrupt.....

Thanks for all your suggestions
Danny

Danny,

Have you got any solution for the error message

"File cannot be Created"
this comes due to OS problem I believe, can anyone help with this error message.

Hi,

I think you might have a problem in the OS indeed.
When you open a message Notes will write certain data to the temporary folder. I guess for some reason Notes can not do that on your machine.

Maybe your HD is full, or you do not have write permission to the temporary folder.

So check first where your temporary directory is set on your system (type "set" in a command prompt), and then check the access to it.

If this is all OK and nothing improves, then remove the Notes client completely and re-install. Then re-create the replica.

Hope this helps!

Hi all,

Thanks for the replies.

We found out that Windows XP doesn`t support Notes5.0.8 as well as Win2000, 9.x. So maybe that`s where the problem lies....

Strange... I have been running R5.07 (the famous bug release) om XP for many months without any real problems...

Now I am using R6 on XP for about 3 months and that one has a habit of crashing now and then and also has some annoying bugs....

Hi all.
Ive been getting these error messages, but only when i work in my inbox. My soloution was to delete cache.dsk file and then i can work in my inbox for a short time.
Im running Notes 5.011 ive tried notes 6 notes 5.07 08 09 its all the same. This problem is at its worst after i have rebooted the computer, then i have to delete cache.dsk about 10 times over 8 hour period. But at some point few days after i reboot i stop getting the error. Im running win2000 on my desktop and im sure its not the OS coz nobody has this same trouble as i do (i work in a company with over 1000 coworkers.)

Bonjour,

I had the same problem after having installed Notes client 6.0.1 on the same PC in a separate folder. I did imprudently open it with the same ID file than on the Notes 5.0.12 folder.
After that, I couldn't open any mail on the server or on local replica.
I think the ID file was corrupted or modified by version 6 Notes client.
Using a backup copy of the id file corrected the problem.

Hervé

Replacing the ID file solved the problem thanks herve for the solution
