"explorer.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows" 3

Windows Explorer breaks frequently and for no apparent reason. A message box with the following text appears: -

"explorer.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows.
You will need to restart the program
An error log is being created."

My recent clean Win2K installation is at SP3 and with all Microsoft updates.

Any ideas anybody?

I had this error when my folder contained avi or mpg files. It was driving me nuts. I noticed that the error usually occured when explorer opened up a preview of the film clip. I was able to get rid of the problem when I selected "Customize This Folder" and selected "Classic (icons only)" option. The preview was gone and no more error.
