None of our office workers can't get in to the exchange server with authorized usernames & passwords that I have set for them on the server (Active Directory).

I am wondering if a corrupted WINS server database is the cause of this problem. This morning I can't get to the server remotely. I checked the server only to be greeted with an error saying that "WINS could not start due to a missing or corrupt database" then information on how to restore the database followed. After rebooting the server twice, I could see WINS on the server but on the client end, the following errors came instead when logging on to their emails.

"Exchange Server unavailable....." when clicking ok
it gives the another error..."The logon credentials
supplied were incorrect...." although I reset the
password for the users"

I wonder if restoring the database for WINS, would solve this problem. If yes, I need information of how to go about doing this safely.

Please help.

WINS is definitely the cause of the Exchange logon problem.

Adding the Exchange server to the LMHOSTS file may fix the problem (this isn't a long term solution of course).

In a smaller environment, it maybe quicker to just rebuild the WINS database. Run NBTSTAT -RR from all servers to have them re-register with the new WINS database.

Thanks wallst32 for your helpful tip, I need that confirmation badly.

Thanks for the great tip wallst32. Just to avoid future database corruption, any tips of how to prevent the same problems from happening. Its a real headache and I would like to prevent future happenings.
