In my user profile and also under "All users" or "Administrator" most the folders are now hidden. For example Favorites, Send to, Cookies, etc. are now hidden. They were always visible before. I have show all files enabled in properties. I can still access them if I type the name in the command line box.

Any idea what happened and how to get them "visible" again?

Useful items like send to -> mail recipient are also gone from the right click context menu.

Thanks

I have show all files enabled in properties".

Do you have both options checked? One for the Hidden files, and the other for System files.

send to desktop as shortcut missing

You could just copy the missing Send To icons from another machine's Send To folder and paste them into the corrupt Send To folder.

Both options for system and hidden files are checked.

The "send to" folder is hidden. I can access through the command line box at the top of explorer.

What is the situation like from Safe Mode? Or from Normal Mode but as another user?

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right-click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking. Select both boxes.

In the Properties of the folders and files is the Hidden attribute checked?

You could see if you can change the file Attributes using the Attrib command and the -h -s switches? That, of course in a normal setup, shouldn't be needed.

Try the free version of "Ewido" now called "AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5"

Windows Defender

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.

How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade (Reinstallation) of Windows XP (Q315341)

I am tryin to find the location of my user profile on an XP Pro desktop. I would like to take a workgroup computer and bring it on the domain. Thing is I want to copy over the local profile, so when I log onto the domain all my settings and icons will show up as before. Can anyone direct me to the right way to find the path to my local profile.I looked in My Docs, Admin, but can't seem to find the rigth file.

You will find the local user profiles under the "desktop" folder.

Can also find it from explorer at c:\Users\username\appdata

Appdata is hidden so make you have show hidden files enabled.
