This is my first time using the Access 2007 Upsizing Wizard to convert an Access to SQL Server Express and it is going nowhere. I always get a Connection Failed error after the second screen. I have tried typing in "(local)" and "SQLSERVEREXPRESS" for What SQL Server would you like to use for this database? (the question at the top) but I always get "Connection failed". What are you supposed to put in this field? Is a choice supposed to appear in the combobox automatically? What am I doing wrong?

Type the following in:

(local)\SQLEXPRESS

The first part is the name of the server ("(local)" means "this computer" - you could also use the loopbak IP address 127.0.0.1). The second part is the SQL Server instance.

I put in:

What SQL Server would you like to use for this database?
(local)\SQLEXPRESS

Please specify login and password ...

<blank> Use Trusted Connection

Login ID: User
Password: <blank>

What do you want to name ...

associates_beSQL

I get a message which says among other things 'Login failed for user 'User'. So is it the password? When I turn on the computer I don't enter a password. How can I find out what my password is? (if that's the problem.)

Thanks for your help. None of the tutorials I looked at showed (local}\SQLEXPRESS.

I tried it and I got this message

Connection failed:
SQL State: '28000'
SQL Server Error: 18456
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Login failed for user 'sa'
