Dell Latitude C640, port replicator dock, NWare client 4.83 SP1. Unit is plugged into a Nortel 350-24T switch. More times than not, the user is getting a "can't see tree" error when booting. User has to login 'workstation only' then launch the NWare login in order to attach to the Novell resources. I'm thinking it may possibly be a communication issue between the 3Com 3C920 NIC (used in both the laptop itself anad the dock). This appears to be consistent with multiple C640 units. Does anyone have any ideas???

Oh yes.. That one plauged me for weeks.. In my case, the nic was just fine along with the cable.. I beleive I added the Novell's IP/HN to the hosts and hostslm files along with replacing every inch of cable between the PC's.

Seems like it is always laptops that do it.. weird!
Also, I did the ipconfig /release and reboot fix quite a few times.. "tis better to be thought of as a fool then open your mouth and remove all doubt" Mark Twain

Oh!! one more thing I always did.. I asume your using DHCP.. I also made DNS static on the laptops and left the IP Dynamic! "tis better to be thought of as a fool then open your mouth and remove all doubt" Mark Twain

Snootalope...thank you for your input. Were you able to slay the beast?

Speaking of input, here's more from me:

* The client is set to use IPX as the primary protocol...
* The IP addys and all associated settings are static (private net numbers: 10.93.xx.xx)

Keep those cards and letters coming!
