I wonder if anyone can help?

Some downloaded software packages (usually shareware, packaged into their own installation packages )won't isntall, as I can't get their install packages to run. The error message window's title is: "Can'r run 16-bit Windows program", and the message itself is:

"Cannot find file c:\xxxxxx.exe (or one of its components. Check to ensure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available".

These are 32-bit programs (the latest one is Broadband Wizard), and I'm running them from Windows, not DOS.

System:
Compaq Presario 1Ghz
256 Mb RAM
Win2K Pro + SP2
And all Microsoft patches and updates
Latest hardware and software drivers from Via

I'd be grateful for some advice.

Many thanks,

Check out the following website for insight to your problem...and the best part about it is that the download is free!

Though this isn't an answer to your prob, this might provide some insight. When I formatted a new Win 2000 pro machine in total NTFS, I got the same error. Sorry, but have not figured out a way around yet other than reinstalling Windows with a partitioned FAT C drive with a 2nd NTFS partition

I've seen similiar - =dDo the executables that are failing have a long filename or spaces in the filename...? Are you running them from the network or locally? Heath

I started getting some other errors, so I just formatted and re-installed W2K ,and everythings' running perfectly. I think some DLLs or registry items just got scrambled.
