"Cannot open the illustration (EPS)"...garbled object...

Hi.
Please help if you can...
I am trying to open an .EPS file (a logo) in Mac A.I 8.0.1, but I get the message:
"Cannot open the illustration. The illustration contains an incomplete or garbled object description. Offending operator Systemdict."
This only happens with this and another 3 logos from the same source, but the source claim their files are fine. Other .EPS logos open up no probs.

Any ideas anyone?

You might try Placing the offending file in a new, blank document. Make sure the Link checkbox is NOT checked. If that doesn't work, go to the Adobe User to User forum (

http://www.adobe.com/support/forums/main.html)and

search with the keywords Systemdict and/or userdict for several threads discussing the problem and some solutions.

It was created with Illistrator 9 or 10
try opening it in a newer version If you do not have
the latest version then ask your client to save it down to yours.
