"cannot copy necessary linked files" error

When I try to package IDcs files, i get an error reading "cannot copy necessary linked files." Everything looks good in preflight, no missing fonts/links anything like that. I tried the suggestions i've found elsewhere -- erasing preferences, making sure I have enough disk space, that sort of thing. Any suggestions?

Are the linked files on a network?

none of the linked files are on a network. continuing to package creates a new folder with some files in it, but the folder only contains fonts and links folders, which appear to be incomplete.

no luck solving it as yet -- i've been sending my stuff to another computer to package it for offsite use. not exactly the best solution, so i'd definitely appreciate if there were more suggestions!
