I am running Backup Exec 7.2 on a NT 4.0 server. The amount of data being backed up is 134.94 GB. The machine will slowly stop responding until you can't do anything on it. Then it will reboot itself. The process of slowing down and rebooting takes around an hour to complete. When the machine comes back up, the job that crashed it doesn't even exist. Backup Exec doesn't have any recollection of the job.
We assumed that it may be Memory so we purchased new RAM. We went from 256 MB to 1 GB. It still does the same thing.

Firstly upgrade to 7.3 build 2575 which a free upgrade. After that apply the POST2575.EXE file. Bothe upgrade and the post2575 files can be downloaded from the VERITAS website.

Ensure you have the latest VERITAS tape device drivers, again available from their website. Ensure the SCSI controller drivers are up to date too. Ensure firmaware for the tape device is upto date. Reapply yopur sp if on sp6 update it to 6a. Sp6 has a few issues with it as per Microsoft. Also, reapply your Mdac.
