Hi all,

I am running Win2k, IE5.5, with Naviscope running on top.

For the past week or so, I have noticed a file being downloaded to my machine... I caught the URL that it was coming from:

http://a1964.g.akamai.net/7/1964/2730/version/whenushop.whenu.com/DataChunks?update=

Does anyone know why this file is being downloaded to my machine, do I have spyware on my machine or could it be an indication of a Trojan?

I am a bit worried that my browser it performing actions that I am not telling it to.

Also, I have updated my Virusscanner and performed a system wide sweep which picked up nothing...

Please!, someone help!

Akamai is a service which allows websites to balance downloads. It is not a virus. Most of the major download sites use it.

Actually I just this minute found out what It was....

Somehow a File 'Savenow.exe' had managed to install itself on my Machine (Without permission I might add)

It was using anything between 7 and 20 Meg of Memory at any given time, Pretty impressive for a 600k Program file, the programmer must have been trained at Micro$oft.

This program was periodically downloading files to my computer, (By periodically, I mean every 2 or 3 webpages I was loading btw) these files werent that big, but it was causing a noticable slow down on my connection.

The program, I believe, is supposed to pop up every now and then and offer you taylored Offers when you visit certain sites, like Amazon.com for example. Its worth mentioning that all the sites that are listed are american only shopping sites, absolutely no use to me as I am English!

I would advise anyone to Run Taskmanager and look under Processes to see if Savenow.exe is running.

You may want to search the registry for this entry as well. The service may be run when you start your machine. If you find it in the \Run or \RunOnce keys, you may want to delete it.

After installing Naviscope, I checked the "fine print" on their website (

http://www.naviscope.com/FAQ.htm#6)

and found out that "shopping info" is automatically downloaded by the program from their site! Surprise, surprise - sounds like spyware to me, despite all the positive hype.
