Hi I have a RH AS2.1 machine running sendmail 8.12.8, i just updated to this version.

now when i try /etc/init.d/sendmail restart i get:

Shutting down sendmail: [ OK ]
Shutting down sm-client: [FAILED]
Starting sendmail: [ OK ]
Starting sm-client: [ OK ]

i added: define(`confPID_FILE',`/var/run/sm-client.pid')dnl to sendmail.mc and rebuilt the .cf file but it still doesn't work.

this server acts as a backup for exchange servers and should queue mail for external domains - which it does do but only for about 5 minutes, the queued mail then simply vanishes...

please help, i'm REALLY struggling with this one!

thanks

SJ

Check your permissions and make sure that you can actually create the PID where it needs to be.
