Queue in exchange [yahoo.com.tw , ms14.hinet.net ecc]

Hi Guys,

I have an exchange server at work and everything was working fine until one day i noticed that e-mails had been taking hours and some times days to arrive to their destination.

i opened the queue in the exchange and found out 30,000 e-mails.... i manged to clear the queue, but just to find out the day after that the e-mails increased to 157,000 in the queue.

i installed a trial version if symentec mail security and it blocked only a few spam domains like, but they are still coming in.

the funny thing is that i am monitoring the queue every second and i spend hours without any trace of these e-mails, then after few hours they just popup...

Now i noticed that as soon as i shutdown the other server, the problem is not coming up ( hope so ) ...

what can be the problem that is causing all this queue? how can i treat it? i tried to find around on google but with no success...

i did some tests and finally found out that only e-mails from gmail, yahoo and some other domains are not coming in. some other domains are able to get through the exchange..

in the diagnostic logging i have everything set to NONE .. i don't know what i have to change from there, maybe they are correct or i need to change some logging permissions?

Can you give us an overview of where you are currently:

1. Can you send and receive ok apart from the above domains?

2. Do you still have queues?

3. Do you have NDR to the internet switched on or off? (See my first post in this thread)

4. Are you an open relay? (test at

i had a setting from the SMTP server:

[Anoymous access] not ticked and that was the reason e-mails where not coming through to all the e-mail accounts on the server.

as soon as i ticked it e-mails started to come in, but my luck didn't last long.

again the queue was building up as soon as i turned the above option on.

i tried to make the test from the dnsgoodies website but it says {test took to long} after just few seconds.

check to see if you are an open relay manually, by using the amset.info link above - start at where it says "There are two parts of the Exchange that can make your Exchange server an open relay, the Default SMTP Virtual Server ...etc". If your settings indicate that you are an open relay, follow the rest of the document to sort it out. (If you arent open relaying, you may have a malware problem on a client pc or the server itself)

(Where it says "Ensure that "Only the list below" is enabled and the list is empty", you may have internal IPs listed there for the likes of Office Print/scanner devices that scan to email, you need to leave those in there to maintain the scan to email functionality)

SO... update

as soon i pasted my last message on 5th May i noticed i had an option TICKED in the:

VIRTUAL SMTP SERVER --> properties --> Access --> relay --> Allow all computers which successfully authenticate to relay regardless the list below.


Its been since i UN TICKED that setting that SPAM E-mails stopeed coming in while normal e-mails started to pass through again.
