Hello everyone,

I have a few questions about Impromptu (7.1). First can I insert Data in Impromptu? I have the columns and I want to insert a new Column and the User can add the Data Manually. Is that posibble? I have read something about Prompt... Is that the way? Can anyone describe me that step-by-step? It were very helpfull. Or a Ebook/Theard with that info were really helpfull for me. I can Export the Data from Impromptu. But is there a way that I become this data updatet? A macro or something? Or a way that I can take this data in Access? I want to add a database in Impromptu and then make a join with the impromptu data and this new database. Is that possible? Can I insert a new Database in Impromptu and then can anyone explain me how I make a Join between this 2 Querys?

Thanks a lot!

Dude,
that's many questions!
Check out the pdfs that come with Cognos - they're real helpful. If that's no good, get your employer to pony up for a Cognos course - I gather they make half their money off 'em, so they're not cheap!
BTW, mixing DBs in Impromptu is a no-no apart from the clunky way of hotfiles. Best to set up a link in one DB to another, so you've just got one catalog. Muy gusta!

Thanks billnted,

I have alreay read the Impromptu Ebooks. It´s a little difficult my situation... I will read it again more carefully.
We had already a Cognos course but we learned just the Basics. Thanks again :)

Julia, there is always someone who mistakes a reporting tool for a spreadsheet application.
You can not 'add' data to the outcome of a query set in a manual way. This is not a specific thing for impromptu, it is valid for any reporting tool AFAIK.

A prompt is an interactive query-condition. I asks the user to enter one or more values that is (are) used by the query generator to build the query.

On how to acces data you should look into catalogues. This is the metadatalayer that lets you access databases.

I had a few Problems with the Catalog. I have found it in the Firma and I couldn´t make any changes. So I have creted a new Catalog.
