Hi,
I would be really grateful if anyone could comment on whats the best way to do this. Our main office has a 2mb adsl line used for web\email, I've connected to our site using vpn via this line from a 1mb adsl connection and was surprised at how slow it was,

therefore would I need a seperated firewall and adsl line inorder to get the best through put for a remote office?
we plan on having about 3-5 workstations at the remote site, should I join them to the domain and configure apps (email\database front end)or use a VNC type connection? I'm thinking to use outlook's offline abilty and to only synchronise changes. any tips much appreciated. thanks

The speed of a vpn is related directly to the upload speeds at both ends. A 384k connection is painfully slow, especially is you have a 100M LAN - but should be OK for Outlook updates.

For better throughput you need better upload speeds on each end!

If you can't do this, you're reduced to using something like VNC.

Thanks for the reply. I therefore need to get an ISP to set up another adsl line for us or increase our current bandwith, I prefer the idea of having a sperate firewall\adsl line for the remote office. One other question, can the remote site use the same line for vpn to main office and browsing net simueltaneously?

Yes. The remote site can most certainly use the same circuit for web browsing and VPN traffic. Just keep in mind that the amount of traffic on one can directly affect the speed of the other.
