hey guys i am currently running exchange 03 we want to migrate to 07..i was just curious about costs. we are interested in running CCR with 2 server running edge transport and 2 server runing hub/cas roles and 2 mailbox servers using active/passive - would all 6 of these servers need an exchange 07 enterprise license? or could the edge & hub/cas just use standard? because 6 license of exchange 07 enterprise i think runs like 3 grand per license..maybe more.. im not 100% sure..fill me in guys

thanks

That depends on the AV solution you're going to use. If you want to use ForeFront, then there are some benefits to the Enterprise licensing, such as more frequent updates.

However, if you're using a third party solution, then only the clustered solution would need the Ent. licenses.

well my antivirus solution for email was going to be the edge server - PC antivirus i use symantec CE

You still need to run an AV solution on the email servers. The ET role isn't by nature an AV server. You need to install an AV application. This is true for the Hub Transport servers as well.

right i knew that but my question is do i need an exchange 07 enterprise license for every server or can i use exchange standard for the hub/cas & edge?

Standard for HT and ET are fine, based on the criteria you mention.
