Hello,

My friend has a laptop that was infested with a fair amount of viruses and spyware. He was able to get most of it cleaned up I believe but today when he powered on his laptop he has nothing but a blank black screen right from the get go. The laptop seems to power on fine but the screen shows nothing. I referred a couple articles to him which I will leave below. Anyone have any other ideas of what could cause the problem? Could the monitor have burned out or lost power? Thanks in advance.

Yes, his screen could have failed. He should see some sort of splash screen from the BIOS when it is booting up regardless of what malware was on the hard drive.

It might be worth a try of power cycling the machine, or even pulling the battery to insure that it does a cold boot.

Give the wrong symptoms, get the wrong solutions.

Anything showing up if you boot into Safe Mode?

Linney,

He isn't even able to see the screen to be able to boot into safe mode. The computer powers on and thats it, nothing at all shows on the screen.

Do you have another Monitor which could be plugged into the laptop?

It is not something like being stuck in Hibernation is it?

I don't think so. He said he completely powered down the machine the previous night. I will double check anyway though. Thanks

Nick
