Sorry in advance. I can't figure this out. :)

When we receive inbound support calls I would like to be able to set up a Feature 70 (call transfer) that dials an outside line and connects. In this case it's a cell-phone we'd be transferring the call to.

I know this is possible but I have no recollection on how to do it.

I have admin access via 266344.

If someone could assist I would be grateful.

Thanks!!!

What kind of lines?

Thanks!

We have a number of Comcast lines connected to our Nortel phones.

There's a way to Feature 70 and then transfer the call to an outside line. Obviously it needs a spare line to do this (we have plenty). I just forgot where to add the number to dial in the directory.

Hope this helps.

You need to allow "Allow Redirect" to that set/s in Capabilities.
If allways transferring to the same number then build a route to use the pool and add in the external numnber, create a dest code to use that route.
To use: TRANSFER, DESTCODE

Regardless if you have Config access, if you have no knowledge of where that is or how to program then call a tech in.

Thanks! Do you have a referral for anyone in the Chicagoland area? Our current guy isn't super reliable.

You need to use yellow pages or look for nortel norstar chicago etc and not the forums.

If you are ok with the system and it's basic programming I'm sure you can get phone support from pretty much anyone that does Nortel. Not sure what the rates are maybe somewhere around $50 per 1/2 hr.

Thanks - I sent in a few quote requests from online providers.

I am located in Chicago and most of the former Nortel base have switched to IP Office. Also Ameritech/SBC/ATT has a HUGE installed base here so they are the ones that used to support a ton of Nortel installations through some of their interconnects or directly through ATT technicians.

All you need to do is search for some Nortel technicians in towns such as Mt. Prospect, Addison, Naperville, Joliet, etc. and I am sure some people will come up.

What you are trying to do sounds very simple.....

I'm in the city (South Loop). Will try to find a local guy. Thanks!

we are neighbors! I am at Harrison and Clinton. I fixed Lou Mitchells Norstar system, but only for free food and helping out the nice owner, I am not a certified technician, though. Ever been there?

I'm a few blocks away at Clinton and Roosevelt (Kale Realty). If you can find it in your heart to walk me through the steps I'll send lunch over to you!

Well Thank You!

So everyone can learn here on Tek Tips, tell me exactly down to every detail of what you are trying to do......

A call comes into the office and you want it to immediately forward to another number without anyone picking it up at the office?

Joseph Sus Jr. Nortel Enthusiast

A call comes in - we put the person on hold, and then transfer them (feature 70 or whatever) to an outside cell line. We have 6 office lines total here so there's always an open one to make the transfer.

Let me know what other info you need. Thanks!

Sounds like you just need to use an old school telephone feature called LINK (Northern Telecom Canadian name) or Flash in American terminology.

Alright more thank likely if you have analog/POTS VOIP lines from Comcast/ATT/Vonage you can simply do this.

When first call comes in, talk to party, then to Transfer:

Press Feature 71
1-Then wait for dial tone, then dial number of party you want to transfer to
2-Once Ringing begins, Press RLS to release the Line
3-The Call you transferred will now be ringing on the external party
This is called a blind transfer

If you want to perform a consulted transfer and tell the person who is accepting the transferred call, who is calling them,

Press Feature 71
1-Then wait for dial tone, then dial number of party you want to transfer to
2-Once Ringing begins, wait for third party to answer and tell them you are transferring a call
3-Press RLS you'll be released and the two parties will be connected
4-The Call you transferred will now be ringing on the external party

So in other words you can have a 3 Way call as well if you want.

Additionally you can program a spare autodial button on the Norstar phone to say DIR Transfer etc....

1-Press Feature *3
2-Press the button you want to program
3-Once an "F" appears on the display, Enter Feature 71 and press OK or press RLS
4-button is now programmed with the LINK Feature 71 button

If you want to program the external number you are constantly transferring a call to:

1-Press Feature *1
2-Press the button you want to program the external number on
3-Press 1-area code-phone number
4-Press RLS or OK and the button is now programmed

DO NOT CONFUSE THE TRANSFER FEATURE 70 OR THE TRANSFER BUTTON ON THE SOFT KEYS ON THE TELEPHONE WITH EXTERNAL TRANSFERS. THIS TRANSFER BUTTON IS FOR INTERNAL CALLS ONLY, SAY YOU WANT TO TRANSFER A CALL FROM EXT. 222 TO EXT 225. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH EXTERNAL TRANSFERRING.

The reason why? The transfer you are trying to do is using Comcast's phone switch to the do the transferring. By Pressing Feature 71, you are initiating what is called a "Hookflash" which tells the Comcast phone system you want to transfer a call or conference a call. Think of it as the old school call waiting when you pressed Flash to link between two calls. Northern Telecom always named this button Link....

As far as the Transfer soft key only working for internal calls, I am talking about basic Analog telephone service coming into the Norstar system. I believe if you have a newer system which uses digital PRI/BRI Trunks and SIP on the BCM, you can use this transfer button or Feature 70, but since you are using analog trunks, you don't need to worry about this now.
