hey

1.When I'm installing Sharepoint-do I have to install the SPS or the WSS only on a DC server with AD on it or mybee it is possible to do so on any win2003 server (even if has no AD or it is not a DC)
2. After that do I need to do an import from the network (from the AD by forcing or something...) or it's making by itself ?

Thank you alot

Hello,

You do not need to install SharePoint on a DC, you can install it on any Win2003 server. Then when you add your users and administrative accounts you can use accounts from your "regular" A.D.

I would install the SharePoint server as a memeber server in a domain.

What exactly do you mean with "do I need to do an import from the network?".

If you are running SharePoint Portal Server you can import userprofiles from the Active Directory, however you still need to add users/usergroups in SharePoint. There is not "realtime" sync with the A.D Sharepoint adds a layer if authentication, so when you add a users in sharepoint it does a lookup towards the AD and then adds the users, once that is done, sharepoint handles the authentication for that user when accessing sharepoint.

I hope I did not make you confused now :)

Regards,
Thomas
