Good Afternoon,

I have a Option 11C, release 25. My vendor tells me that I need to purchase a daughterboard to be installed on a NTAK09BA card so that they can program a d channel for a newly installed PRI. They tell me I can purchase either a NTAK93AB or a NTBK51BA. The NTBK51 provides a downloadable d channel. Can someone explain why I would need the NTBK51BA vs. the NTAK93AB? Is the downloadable board necessary or will my PRI be fully functional with just the 93 board. I'm struggling with understanding what might be downloaded and by who, the service provider or my switch.

Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving.

Linda

You do need a d channel daughterboard when using the ntak09 it does not support a d channel without it. The ntbk51 is programmed as a msdl card and you can download the firmware to the board from you pbx not from provider. But your d channel will work fine with either. You could also get a ntrb21 tmdi card which has the d channel interface built in.

The NTAK93 does not support the NI2 protocol if I remember.

the down load is from the switch, after you build the d in ld 17 you have to enl msdl x fdl, the information just entered will be written to the card. that makes the d faster because of the onboard information. you will not lose of gain functionality with either board.. the daughter board will only connect to the two pri's on the dual pri card.. it still can control other pri's IN THE same route.. the stand alone card is 4 port, not 2 and can direct connect to any pri in the switch and can support 4 routes on 4 loops... that's a hardware function... i have both and am running ni2 but i don't recall if i have tried ni2 on the daughter board.. go to 96 and map msdl, that will show you if you have any vacant ports on an msdl in the switch.. your provider could have missed that, it's not a well known command

Thanks to all that responded. Unfortunately, I don't know anything about Nortel programming so I need to rely on the vendor. It sounds like the downloadable D channel is not required and that I can purchase the less expensive option of the NTAK93AB without affecting how the circuit will operate.
It was mentioned that NTAK93 does not support NI2. We are changing service providers and I'm told that our protocol is currently set up as DMS100, not NI2. We will need to use Avaya 5ESS for the new provider. Will the 5ESS require NI2? To give you some background information, when this switch was originally installed 3 years ago, there were two PRI's going into it. One PRI was disconnected a couple of years ago. When we decided to change service providers, I thought that I had a spare card in the switch which I could use to connect the new providers PRI. We want to have the current and new circuits running in parallel. It was then that I found out that the D channel was on the current card in slot one and was shared by the original two PRI's. So what I thought was a spare PRI card, turned out not to have a d channel, which is the reason for the purchase. So that I won't loose functionality when I disconnect the current circuit, I'm told that we need to move the spare card, currently sitting in the second slot, to another slot. This should make it a standalone PRI and disconnecting the current circuit will have no affect on the new circuit. Would you agree?

Is the card in slot 2 still live? If not you can put the D-Channel card on it and put it back in the same slot then just change the programming for the D-Channels. I think the 93 card will do ESS5.

the 93 will do 5ess but you need to make sure the provider does not setup the pri with ni2

Thank you again for all your assistance. We've decided to go ahead with the NTBK51 to avoid any issues for NI2. Have a great afternoon.
