question on terminal services licenseing with exchange

I have just brought up exchange 2003. I have a windows 2000 enviroment except for the exchange server. I have noticed replication is slow unless I force the 2003 exchange server to refresh a couple of times. That is one problem. The other is when I go to RDP from desktop it tells me no licenses available. I have some 2003 lisences and some that are just 2000. But the licenseing is on a 2000 server. Do I need to make the 2003 server that has my exchange on it my licenseing server? Would this mean I need to update my other licenses to 2003 also? Maybe the I am using the licenses that are 2003 but I am maxing out because the other licenses are just 2000?

Do you mean that you are trying to access TS desktop on the W2003 server in admin mode?

If so you don't need to install the actual terminal services service as you did in W2K, it is already built in as remote desktop.

Remove terminal services and problem should go away.

If I disable this service will people still be getting their e-mail? I was told the server was configured with terminal services. Also I do see the terminal services service and it is started.

So if I understand you right, I should stop this service and then I will be able to RDP and people will still be getting mail?

RDP access to a Win2k3 server is controlled just like WinXP.

If you right click My Computer, select the remote tab, and check the box under RDP you will be set. There are options to set up access controls under the select users button.

The installation of terminal services puts you in the 'application mode' and the server then looks for a licensing server.
