Hello All,
Hope everyone here is in good spirits,

I am running HP3000, MPE/ix(5.X) and using Reflection 5.1
to connecty from my windows network through a serial port.
I am having problem connecting to my HP3000.

The only reason I could think of is that, I shifted my hp3000 for the reason of "ISABEL" to a higer place. For which I disconnected the network and connected it back,
but since then I am unable to connect..

can any one know help on this..

I hope some answers from TAW, MATT and others as usual and Thanks guys in advance...

My first thought is a hardware problem. Are you using the exact same cables that you were using before moving the hp3000?

The hp3000 is running normally from the console, you just can't connect from the windows machines, right?

That is correct..
Hp3000 is running normal from the console..

I obly cant conncet thru the serial port...from windows

Did you temporarily move the system to higher ground and now it's back exactly where it was before? Are you positive it's back on the same segment (i.e. is the gateway node address the same)?

Have you tried pinging the gateway from the HP? Are your DTCs configured with IP addresses, and, if so, can you ping them?

Glenn

I have never did ping to hp3000 before..
I tried this time pinging using the host name. but it said
"unknown host"..

I dont know how to see the ipaddress for the host in hp3000 from the console.

Right my consloe looks good by showing me operator.sys prompt..

any advice?

From the MPE/iX: prompt on the console:

run ping.net.sys

follow the prompts and enter the IP address of your default gateway, use any reasonable packet length, and try sending 3 packets.

That will confirm that your HP is capable of talking to the network.

(BTW - the IP address of the HP host (and its default gateway) is found in the NMCONFIG file which is accessed from NMMGR.PUB.SYS.)

Glenn

Glenn,
that sounded like a lot of technical stuff to me in the beginning ..but i managed to do that..
Here is the result of i tried..

I did a run ping.net.sys from operator.sys prompt and it gave me no prompt, but a message "END of PROGRAM"
if the ping.net.sys gave me a prompt I would have tried to enter my windows network default gateway IP address in there(?)(correct me if i am wrong..)

and I tried to PRINT NMCONFIG.pub.sys and most of the contents looked very non understanbable to me.

Nickel -

Sounds to me like you weren't logged in as MANAGER.SYS.

As I said in my prior e-mail, you have to use NMMGR.PUB.SYS to change/view the NMCONFIG file.

Glenn

Glenn Thanks,
I did log on as manager.sys this time and ran ping.net.sys.
I got a message saying "cannot contact local ICMP server. Shutting down.."

I am doing it correct

Thanks

I am sorry .. I meant to ask Am I doing it correct??

Nickel -

From the manual at:
Code:
MESSAGE Cannot contact local ICMP Server. Shutting down...

CAUSE PING/XL cannot contact the above mentioned local ICMP Server.

ACTION Check if the Transport is active. If not, start the transport.
Do a NETCONTROL STATUS and an NSCONTROL STATUS to be sure your network transport has been started.

Glenn

I get,
" TRANSPORT NOT ACTIVE(NETXPORTWARN0001)
Encountered one or more warnings while processing command"
when I did Netcontrol status.

And I get,
"NO NETWORK SERVICES ARE CURRENTLT ACTIVE " message when i did a nscontrol status.

Now is there a way to turn this thing on?
surely I dont know that..

Update:

I did find NMMGR.PUB.SYS open me a screen for asking, NS,IBM or anyother network.

I selected NS,
and now I am at the guided or unguided setup.

I chose guided..and trying to figure out what to do..

Nickle,
Doesn't sound like your network is started. Do you know how to do that? Let me know if you need help.

Thx
TAW

To start the NETWORK, enter these commands signed on as MANAGER.SYS (hopefully your LAN network is named LAN1, you can find that out using NMMGR but try this first).

NETCONTROL NET=LAN1;START
NETCONTROL START;NET=LOOP
NSCONTROL START
NSCONTROL SERVER=VTSERVER,75

Hey Taw , Good to see u..

I did a,
NETCONTROL NET=LAN1;START
and I got
Configuration file not valid (NETXPORTERR 4061)
...
Do I have to create a new configuration file?
How do I do that?

Nickel,
Do A LISTF NMCONFIG.PUB from MANAGER.SYS and post the results (as below).

:LISTF NMCONFIG.PUB,3

I do not understand why it shows, modified as
SEP 25 2003 (current date)..

Because you got into NMMGR, hopefully nothing was modified.

You need to get back into NMMGR and find the LAN Network interface. Follow these instructions for NMMGR.

Get into NMMGR

Hit F1 to Open Config (note function keys), which brings up the Main screen.

Hit F2 NS, which brings up the "NS Configuration Screen".

Hit F1, which brings up the "Guided Configuration Screen".

Hit F5, which will list all your configured networks.

After that screen is displayed, F8 out of NMMGR.

Let me know the name and type of each configured network.
