So, when people sign up for a trial for one of our products, we would like to send them an email automatically. Is there anyway to do this automatically in real time other than with a trigger? I know I can create a DTS package and then schedule that to run every xx minutes, but would like to look into real-time transactions. If we only have, maybe 50 trials/day, is that much of a performance hit on the server? How do I determine at which point it is best to go with a batch process vs real-time with triggers (speaking strictly from a system performance viewpoint)?

I assume your users sign up for a trial via a website. So why not have your web app call or a routine or service to send the email?

Ha! Didn't think of that. Nice easy trigger there. Thanks for thinking for me!
