Okay I have been trying to make this thing in CR. i have 8.5 v. but i have a field called "loan #" and it gets a list of all my accounts, but also inactive accounts, is there a way i can make that field only pull open active accounts. the filed in the eiditing says {BORROWER.ACCOUNT}
and i try to tweak it, and it always gives me an error

So post the error, and your formula.

well in the field object it has {BORROWER.ACCOUNT}
and i try to put anything after or before it, the error pops up. i'm learning this program as I go. I've built sites and websites but nothing like CR

the error msg always says the rest of the text does not seem to be part of the formula

So post the entire formula!

It won't give you an error unless you try to save the formula.

Please confirm that you are getting to this formula from the field explorer, right click on formula field, and selecting new or edit as the case may be.

If this is not the case you are not working with a formula field.

Are you using the Select Expert? This is useful for starting off, but it's better to use Report > Edit Selection Formula > Report. THis would let you enter something like
Code:
{BORROWER.ACCOUNT} = "A"
