At the office i have a Dell latitude D600 laptop, and when i connect the laptop onto the docking station and then try to power the system on, all the lights on the laptop light up and then turn off within seconds. What i'm asking is, is this normal? Because it seems the only way to use the system with the dock station is to turn the system on before docking it. Any advice on this? I've also tried a different dock station, but it does the same thing.

Well, I've used the docking station for the Dell Precision laptop tons of times, and have never had an issue with powering up the machine after connecting it to the docking port.

Try cleaning out the multi-pin socket on the rear of the laptop with a few short blasts of air or a small q-tip dampened with ethanol or tape-head cleaner. Those contacts are very small and I once had a crystal of silica gel get caught in there and fouled things up.

Also, if there is a power switch on the docking station, use it and not the switch on the laptop for power up.

If wahnula's cleaning tip doesn't work, you're looking at a motherboard replacement to remedy your situation.

Just out of curiosity, does it still have problems with the battery out of the laptop?

I know with HP/Compaq docking stations, it doesn't matter if you use the power button on the laptop or dock. Double-check to make sure the model you're using is 100% compatible with the dock model.
