These are the license for ReportNext that exist (according to my sales representative):

Recipient (US$ 288)
Consumer (US$ 748)
Business Author (US$ 1.236)
Professional Author (US$ 2.300)
Administrator (US$ 7.000)

Can the administrator do absolutely everything the business and professional authors can do? and can these do everything the recipient/Consumer can do?

According to my sales representative the Administrator can't create the reports the Professional Author can, so I have to buy at least these two licenses. Is this correct?

What are the differences between recipient and consumer?
Where can I find more information about these licenses to double check what my representative here in Chile is telling me?

Thank you,

Jaime

I would be concerned about purchasing from your rep if they are not willing to give you the details regarding what each license entails.
Talk with your rep, if they are not willing to give you all the information you want, ask to speak to someone else at Cognos. If they are not willing to help, don't buy from them. IMHO, these are just standard, good business practices.

I am what I am based on the decisions I have made.

I don't think they really want to lie.. I am just not convinced they KNOW what they are saying.

As I stated earlier, if you're current sales rep is not well versed, ask to speak with someone else at Cognos. Any sales rep worth their salt is more concerned about getting the sale than being the only person to talk to a customer.

Yeah, we had the same problem with our sales rep. He really didn't know a thing about the capabilities of some of the software.

However, my experience has been that Cognos is usually very good about sending a "technical" sales helper along with the regular marketroid sales reps if you want them too.

The techie sales person (and they're aren't that many of them compared to the marketroids Cognos fields to potential buyers) are usually VERY good at explaining the differences in license types or capabilities of software. Many times it only takes a phone call to the techie sales helper to clear things up -- the marketroid can provide a phone number for you to call.

Your sales rep is a moron. But, to answer your question...

If you have an administrator license, you can do anything...build, publish models, build reports (Qry Studion & Rpt Studio), etc.

Your Prof Author buys you both Query Studio and Report Studio.

Your Bus Author buys you Query Studio.

Consumer gives you neither Query Studio nor Report Studio, but you can execute pre-built reports and view pre-run reports.

Good Luck! Cindy

Recipient lets you view pre-run reports.
