Question about MSDE

The Microsoft documentation says that MSDE is optimized for 5 concurrent connections. Has anyone used MSDE for a backend, and how many concurrent users have they had? What was the performance vs. Access?

I am using MSDE as the demo database for the project that I am working on and have had more that 5 people using different databases on the server without any problem.

Does anyone know what is actually meant by 5 concurrent connections? Is it connections from different IP Addresses? Different users? Different databases?

Five concurrent connections means you have 5 simultaneous connections to the database at one time, usually through the front end application.
