I have an access advantage T1 for now. It runs in to a adtran TA850 channel bank, then analog into my norstar. I have been getting phantom rings, disconnects, and static for quite some time now. I have talked to AT&T they said the T1 is testing fine. My question is what can I look for. In the access advantage the FXS lines are set for loop start, the T1 is AMI per AT&T. Can someone tell me what else I can look at?

Thanks

You can test the individual lines coming out of the Adtran......cards most certainly go bad in those.

I just replaced the 850 and cards today, same issue. Could the nortel be causing this?

It could be. Can you isolate the trouble to 1 or 2 trunks, or is it across the board? If you are getting static/cutoffs across 1 or 2 trunks you can switch/move them to see if the trouble moves with the trunks or stays with the trunk ports. Another thing: Telco 'testing' can mean a few different things....did they pull logs from the smart jack and test (like an 'acceptance' test) all the way through the equipment or did the run a two minute remote test at a particular time when the DS1 was up and stable? Typically, the symptoms you are describing, indicate a DS1 stabilty problem.

It seems to be accross the board. Are atleast on 2 trunks anytway. All AT&T told me was they tested up to "their" equipment and it tested fine. So they told me it had to be my equipment, either the adtran or the nortel. I will call them and get exctly what they did if that will help. Thanks for the help.

They will be of no help to you as they are delivering a T1. Get a butt set and test each trunk individually.

Artificial Intelligence Is No Match for Natural Stupidity.

The latest survey shows that 3 out of 4 people make up 75% of the population.

The original point and click interface was a Smith & Wesson.

Red meat is not bad for you, it is the green fuzzy meat that is bad.

The problem is it is very unpredictable. Sometimes 5 times an hr, sometimes 1 time in 3 hrs.

That is right. I am almost ready to loose what hair I have left over this.

Will the Norstar not take a T1 straight into the box without the adtran? Is this a straight DTI T1 or is it a PRI with a Dchannel? If it is a DTI then more than likely it goes into the CO through a MUX and analog into the CO switch. Especially if it has been in for any length of time. I would have them check the individual channels out of the mux or channel bank in the CO if there is one.

Try to have the users keep track of where the calls are coming from and that may help also. I had one once that was a remote call forward number from one CO to another that was servicing the switch, passing through several others on the way, and they discovered 9 bad trunks between those CO's. You have to get the right person to get this kind of testing done and you have to have specific end points. That is why I say have the users keep track maybe you can narrow it down to one exchange or area code.

Thanks for the info. The T1 is an access advantage T1, which I was told I cannot run that directly into the Nortel.

What is their reasoning?

They didn't say, the vendor just told me it could not be done.

Maybe your Norstar os old enough to not support a T1.

I am still have static issues. Could a phone be causing this? There is a phone that has 2 lines set to app and ring, I also have one of the lines to app and ring. She complained earlier that the phone rang, then disconnected her. My phone never rang?

Thanks

You could try half tapping the lines from the channel bank to analog sets to monitor the trouble.

Double check the T-1 optioning in the TA850. AMI/SF vs. BSZS/ESF.

I'm not real familiar with the TA850, but see if there is logging or monitoring for the T-1 interface.

Might want to check polarity with your butt set. If one or two is different than the rest, it might cause some of your problems.
