I have an executable file which is supposed to be used for installing a dell 944 AIO printer. However, when I open the executable, it takes me to the main screen, as soon as I click the option to continue, the program simply closes and nothing happens. This executable works fine on another xp pro pc I have here, and other exe's seem to work fine on this particular PC? Again, I'm running XP Pro, SP2. Any suggestions?

Could be a permission issue. Are you logged in as an Admin?

Run windows update, some installs require .net framwork 2.0

and do the other PC's have java installed?

I am logged in as admin, I will try windows updates... I have it set to auto update though, so I'm thinking it's up to date... And yes, the other PC I tried does have Java installed...

Ok, so Java, and .NET framework 2.0 both installed. Still having the same issue... This is very frustrating... Any other suggestions? Thanks for the previous posts...

>I have an executable file

Is that just an .exe file copied from another computer or what?

Suggest you go to Dell's website and download the latest driver and software for the printer.

The .exe file is one I downloaded directly from Dell's site... I've also tried the disc. Same result with both...

Redownload the file as it sounds like it got corrupted.

Check your firewall/antivirus aswell...

some will kill an application before it starts, due to a black list it operates on, or through personal oversight some time ago (ie. where the FW/AV asked if the prog is ok to execute, and the user inadvertently answered NO)...

just some ideas...

check which driver you have installed for the AIO; it should be installed using the Dell/Lexmark disc.

Electronicsfreak - I tried installing this file from the original disc, and then through a download from dell's site... both files have the same behavior, and the file will run fine on other pc's, so i'm inclined to believe the file is ok..

badbigben - I've tried running this exe in safe mode, to eliminate AV, and it performs the same way... I realize I probably wouldn't have been able to completely install it in safe mode, but I wanted to see if i could get a bit further, and I wasn't able to...

eyec - The whole problem is that it won't install at all... I mean sure it will plug and play for printing, but that's about it... the exe on the disc won't run correctly, nor will the downloaded file from dell...

Does anyone know how to find out what lexmark printer this is closely related to? What I mean is it's obvious Dell just puts Dell labels on Lexmark printers and sells them as their own, but is there a way to find out the lexmark model that is similar? The reason I ask is because I'm tempted to either A. just try the lexmark drivers, or B. Just download the lexmark drivers, see if they'll run, and if they do, then just buy that lexmark printer... just a thought...

Thanks again for all of your suggestions...
