I want to automatically update the virus programs in a network.
It is a huge important network with several servers and over 300 clients.
They are all using the Cheyenne anti-virus utility.
Whe want to periodically update the anti-virus programs on ALL the clients via the server.
Can somebody tell me more about this??? (how it works)

You find Information 'bout this in the Inoculan-Docu (CD or Manual). It's not THAT difficult, but u can make many mistakes (I needed several month to get it to work problemless). U Build one Anti-Virus-Domain-Server and configure the clients, that they download the software and the updates automatically at login on the nt-domain. when u tried the steps described in the docu and stll have problems let me know.

Dear Mycroft,

Thanks for the reply,
I already read the manual 10 times over but I still have the problem...
The Server is WinNT and the Clients are all Win95, the Server gets NT updates from a master Server but the Clients can't use them becouse they are all win95.

The Server's operating system is WinNT and the operating system used on the Clients is Win95.
The signature files our Server receives from the Master Server are WinNT but those cannot be sended to the Clients becausee their operating system is Win95 instead of NT.
The server cannot download the signature files because it is not connected to the Internet due to security reasons.
I have downloaded the signature files manually via a "stand alone" PC and then I have put them onto the Server.
...
After doing this I experienced a second problem; the faster machines (Compaq Deskpro 500Mhz) could not download the signature files, it kept saying that an error occured while trying to read the share C: or something.
Does it have something tot do with the network policies or is it something else?

thanks in advance.

Hi,

I have just configured this to work on a similar network.

A few tips...

Make sure that the server is fully up to date with both patches and sigs.

Presumably you are unzipping the downloads into the correct file location. From the clients point of view this should be \\server\cheyupd$\English\WIN95\Ready or

\\server\cheyupd$\English\NTINTEL\Ready

Try manually unzipping as I don't believe that InoculateIT does this in the same way as say McAfee.

From here it is just a case of following the instructions as per CA's website.
Good Luck

Gobber
