Query on synonym during network problem

Hello,

I'm using 8.1.7.4 on Tru64.

My application will query on a synonym of a table located on a remote database. It is found that it will hang if the network connection to that remote database is down. It can be simulated using SQLPLUS. It is found that the select statement will wait infinitely until the network connection resumes. Any suggestion / solution to solve it?

Do you know what your value is for SQLNET.EXPIRE_TIME in your sqlnet.ora file? And the value of CONNECT_TIMEOUT_LISTENER in your listener.ora file?

What release of SQL NET are you running?

Both servers use the same OS and same oracle release 8.1.7.4.

I have not set the parameters SQLNET.EXPIRE_TIME and CONNECT_TIMEOUT_LISTENER, so it uses default.
