we have developed crystal reports using CR10 and published on CE10 which runs on unix, the report uses stored procedure with four parameters, when tried to preview the report on CE it throws Query Engine Error, instead of prompting for the parameters. when i save the parameter it works fine , any reason why this is happening we are using sql server 2000 as the database

Thanks
ak

You have to select the prompt user for parameters within CE to get Crystal to prompt, and of course many SP's will puke if you don't pass the parms.

Sorry, i Forgot to mention , this is happening even after selecting 'prompt user for parameters'

One thing that gets a lot of people is that you have to select the Update button after selecting the parameters and prompt user for parameters, so you think that you've selected it, but it didn't save it.

i did that too, and one more thing is if i set two parameters , its prompting for other two ,if all are empty its not even prompting for parameters and throws query engine error

Thanks
AK

If you set two it's prompting for other two. WHat is that supposed to mean? Does that mean that if you set two of the parameters to prompt for their values, it instead prompts for values for 2 different parameters that aren't supposed to prompt?

There were known issues in earier version of CE with aprms, I guess my first suggestion is to make sure that you apply the latest service pack:

If that fails, please take the time to describe what you have done, and when if works or fails as your current post makes me want to give up because you aren't making sense.

I need to pass four parameters to the stored procedure.when i publish the report on to CE. after setting database and parameters under the process tab , i tried running the report . it threw query engine error , so i set up default parameter values for all the four and it runs fine. then i tried another scenario where i set up only two parameters out of four then it prompted me for remaining two and runs fine. but when all parameters are empty it gives me query engine error. I tried service paack as well. any pointers

Thanks
AK

I set to use report settings instead of server settings under the process tab and it seemed to work ok ,but now for the very first time after publishing the report it gives query engine error but works fine there after (if i refresh or preview again).
why is it giving me the error the very first time

Thanks
AK
