I just upgraded to Panther and Quark 6.0. After working in a new file for just a few minutes, when trying to move a placed image with the hand tool Quark suddenly crashes. I also had the same issue with the "FIle Already Open" error, but read that trashing Norton Antivirus would solve this. I deleted that software but still get the Quark crash with the hand tool. Any ideas what might be causing this? I'm tempted to keep working in Quark 5.0/Classic until Apple and Quark can relase products that actually work together.

I'd only be waiting on Quark. Apple has had OSX out for several years and seems to work well enough with Adobe, Corel and Macromedia. Quark is the newb and passing off its programming to an army of Indian programmers is a bad corporate sign. I'm not discrediting Indians: the discredit goes to a company that is trying to cut every possible development cost instead of producing a solid product.

Does the hand tool bug occur with another image? ...with another image format?

Why is everyone in this forum responding to me as picklefish?

Does the placed image have macintosh 8bit preview? Maybe try saving the same image with a tif preview to see if that stops it from crashing when you move the image.

I have a friend that works for a major telecomm company and they have stopped using Quark because of the customer service changes and the hassle with the activation codes. They're now using Adobe InDesign.

It seems to happen no matter what kind of picture I place in the picture box. If I create a new document and copy/paste the old design in the new document, the crash occurs after working in the document for awhile. There could be some corrupt data in the actual design elements I'm going to create a new document, recreated the design from scratch, and see if that helps.

Here's info I get from the crash report summary...

You might also try to thumbnail drag the elements from suspect document into a new one before starting from scratch. sometimes this will take care of small corruptions.

Also, check for the "auto" functions on programs like you mentioned norton antivirus, suitcase, etc. Suitcase versions prior to X1(i think) arent compatible with Panther.

I hate to say this but I had that same problem in OS9 with Quark 4.11 on a G4 533 dual system. The ONLY way I ever found around it was instead of using the hand tool to move images, use the arrow buttons. It sucks but it got me through projects.

Note had same problem turned out to be a problem with ATI videodriver. I updated to newest driver and problem went away. Worth a try?

The thing with the hand tool happens when I try to drag text boxes larger or smaller.

I too have experience of this. It's seem on a particular type of quicksilver G4. What hardware are you using?
