Hi out there,

My quark files won't print. Can anyone help me? I am using Mac OS X and Quark 6. "Page set up", "Preview", and "Print" work on the desktop but the data light only flashes once on the printer then stops. How come the data isn't getting to the printer? Everything else (Netscape, Photoshop, Word, Safari, Illustrator) prints but not Quark. Is there a setting in the printer prefs I should change? I am using a b/w laser printer some of you may know called a NEWGEN Design XP. I am a freelancer with deadlines and no tech support so I come to you for help. Thanks very much indeed.

Hi Marcus,

Thanks for asking. I am a designer not a technician. It should be a postscript printer but I don't know. I'm doing an ad that will print in 4C process. I have to see it and print a simple b/w laser to show the client for approval. I am a MAC user. I tried to print from OS 9 Quark 4.1 and the printer worked but it is awkward to go back to OS 9 and 4.1. So is it something with the way I installed Quark 6?

In "Print Set Up" the printer description is Generic BW, Paper size: Defined by driver, Output: Grayscale, Halftone: Conventional, 300 dpi 60 lpi process black (just like on 4.1).

In the "Quark print dialogue box" Printer is set to "Design XP", Presets is set at "Standard". The "Printer" pull down menu also has 192.168.2.6 (IP Standard) but I have no idea what that means. The last item on the pull down menus says "Edit Printer List" which I fiddled with in my desperation I don't know if that will affect anything now that I restarted in OS X.

Do you use OS X and Quark 6? Are you suggesting I save the quark doc as an eps and try to print it that way? I'm used to printing straight from Quark but at this point I'll do what ever it takes. It has been so slow and suddenly I have 4 ads to revise and Quark won't print like a nice little program.

Wait I think it is working now that I spent all this time writing to you!!!

I may contact you again! I spend too much time burning music cds and working in the garden instead of doing the things that I get paid for!!!

Hi out there

I have the simplest task of changing b/w logos on several ads created in '00, '01 but I cannot get some of them to print. I've made the revisions and see them on my desktop but the buggers won't print!!!! Shouldn't they print from the desktop just for layout purposes without finding all the original pictures?

Today I asked the publications for help. Originally I delivered negatives that were converted to copy dot scans and they have been picking up from the electronic files since then. All they have are pdfs created from copy dot scans. They don't have my original quark files, psds, fonts, logos, etc. so the onus is on me!!!

Quark is printing other docs but not all the ones that are needed. Can anyone suggest why if I drag elements from a doc from 2001 to a new quark 6 doc why it wouldn't print? Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be wrong? What can I look for? What can I try? I'm fairly certain the problem is with the files and not the printer set up as I'd originally thought. I tried dragging some type into a quark 6 doc and even that wouldn't print.

I'm hoping someone has some suggestions.

All the best,
Motownmon
