Hi all, (thanks for the help on my last query techprodave & foamcow).

I used to send all my pic files to the printers with the document but they prefer a PDF version. Since I've done this all the tiffs in the document look really dull and faded compared to before. I'm PC based, the tiffs print fine from Quark but converting to PDF causes the problems.
Would be grateful for any help,

Thanks guys
Stephanie

Are they dull on screen or when you print them? If it's when they're printed, you may be creating an RGB PDF file. Make sure it's set to CMYK instead.

You could maybe look at the Distiller settings - there are many colour settings in there - try turning them off and distilling the file to see if there is any difference. Also, are you using RGB or CMYK TIFF files. You could also do a test using EPS files instead of TIFF files to see whether you have any more luck.

Duncan

Thanks for the replies - however I am pc based and only use Paint Shop Pro, don't seem to be able to make my tiffs into cmyk graphics. They print fine from Quark but are faded in the PDF format, on screen as well as from the printers.

Your Paint Shop Pro may be saving TIFF files that Acrobat Distiller does not understand - maybe too new? Can you back-save to an earlier version?

I don't entirely agree with greensweater - Distiller is very tolerant now and it should make little or no difference if you supply CMYK files or Distiller converts RGB->CMYK for you. I own a reprographic company and have much experience in this area... Distiller seems to cope admirably with what were once considered big problems - RGB images / JPEG files, etc.

On the output tab on the print colors drop down box select the As Is option seems to have fixed my problem with it.
