Hi!

I am working on a Mac, OS 8.6, using Quark 4.11.

When I drow a vertical guide from the ruler in the quark document, or if I scrol the quark document with a little hand, Quark freezes, and my computer freezes too - even the "force quiting" is not working, I have to restart!

I had this problem before, but I fixed it by updating Quark from 4.1 to 4.11, and geting the "FixIt" extention.

About a month ago I had to reinstal the OS 8.6, and since then my Quark freezing problem is back, even I have the updated 4.11 version and a "FixIt" extention.

What am I missing? Does anyone have a solution?

Thanks!
Anita

Have you tried deleting the 'Xpress Preference' file in the Quark folder! If you can't fix it in 20 call someone who can.

Yes, I tryed deleting the Quark preferences, also the Finder and System preferences from the System Folder. It does not help!

Any other idea?

Thanks
Anita

Is this happening on just one Quark document or to all of them??

If it is one you may have to do a thumbnail drag of each page to a new Quark Document! If you can't fix it in 20 call someone who can.

Ok ... here's the hit parade of likely causes, some of which are covered already:

1) bad Quark prefs (in app folder)
2) RAM - how much RAMis Quark set for -- set it for as much as you can possibly afford - 60-100MB is NOT too much
3) corrupted Quark TEMPLATE - try a new docement, not from template, test.
4) corrupted Fonts. Try turning off ATM (or other Font loader), and remove all non-Apple fonts from the system fonts folder to a safe location. test :) if it works, start putting fonts back
5) Open File problem - try upgrading to Mac OS 9.1
6) Corrupted file system - use DiskWarrior (1st choice), or Norton (2nd choice) to repair the HD
7) possible software conflict - make sure all your extensions are updated, and/or try running under a clean system folder (use entensions manager to run Mac OS 8.6 All or Base set).

Good Luck...

I use Quark 3.31 in Mac OS 9.x, and I have always had a problem with the scroll bar. If I use the scroll arrows, I am OK, but if I try to drag the scroll bar, or click in the scroll box above or below it, it freezes.

Quark is crap.

I see most things have been covered, but once I had a similar problem. And it turned out to be the quark extension that allowed an acrobat file to be made directly from quark. When this was removed it worked fine, I have to make my acrobat files the old way now though the printer.
