I'm new to Quark and expected to create a newsletter. I've had 2 hours of official training -- that's it. I'm familiar with using MsPUblisher, but not Quark.

I've created a newsletter, but need help in tweaking my document.

Would anyone be willing to provide me with email support -- I have too many questions to write them all in a post.

I'd be truly grateful for ANYONE'S help with this.

Here's an example of a question I have: Is there a way to copy character/paragraph formatting from one area to another (as in "paint" from MSWord).

You can use Stylesheets to setup Paragraph and character styles then apply them to your text.

This also allows you to change the style globally in one quick, simple step.

Quark's a big application, if you post your questions here then there are a whole load of people who are willing to offer help.

1 on 1 email support is not really what these forums are about and you are better off posting here, but feel free to contact me and I will help where I can.

Thanks so much for your input. I have so many questions, and they're usually "as I go along" which is why I kind of wanted someone who I could just email quickly for some support, when I'm pulling my hair out.

Anyway -- I've tried using styles, and they're driving me nuts. I apply formatting styles and assign them to a style sheet, and when I highlight another area of text, and apply that existing style to it, it's not changing my text.

I am on Windows, and using QuarkXPress 6.0

Try selecting the area of text you want to change, then ALT SHIFT and click within text with correct formatting.

When you first bring in the text to Quark, select all and apply "no style". Then your styles will take effect immediately. And you needn't highlight the text; just put the cursor in the paragraph. But, for character styles, then you need to highlight the text.

If by rare chance you live in Milwaukee area, i'd be glad to help out in person. I love Quark and it can be fun once you understand it!

Pobajo, I'm so in need of your help, however, I'm not in the Milwaukee area, I'm in Chicago. Would you be available for email or phone consultation?

About the styles, I thought I had created a new style for my text. What I did was created text, formatted it the way I wanted, then applied a style name to that formatted text. Then, when I typed new text, and pulled up the style box, and applied my new style name to this new existing text, it didn't apply ALL the formatting, just some of it. So, I'm way confused. I also have questions regarding master pages, and how to apply changes made to the masters to your other pages. I also have questions about facing pages, etc. See -- I'm lost, AND on a deadline. I'm really intriqued, however, with your "loving Quark". I'd like to hear more about it because right now...i think it's NUTS (reference to the floating toolbars ALWAYS in the way)..hehe.:) Thanks again. If you're willing to give me your email, let's talk!

There is a reason Quark Xpress is still the industry standard after all these years despite having a bad rep for support AND being WAY too expensive.

From memory of my trip to the USA last summer Milwaukee is only about an hours (quite pleasant) drive from Chicago isn't it?
I was visitng Brookfield (near Milwaukee) and flew into Chicago. Spent a good night in Milwaukee at a friends wedding overlooking Lake Michigan. :) It's a small world!

Yes, Chicago is not far from Milwaukee, but I'm wanting to follow the forum rules for sending email addresses, which is a no-no. Can the forum manager provide Jillanne's email address to me privately? I'd love to go to Chicago and help, or help via email.

Pobajo, i have no idea why emails can't be shared, it would be so much easier for me. I'm at work today, again working on my newsletter. If you're logged in, please let me know.:) Thanks again everyone for your help.:)

I'm here for a moment. Anything in particular you are stumped on?
