I cannot get my Quark Documents to make PDF. It asks me to chose a printer through the PDF preference. When I try to choose a printer, it does not contain the right selections. How do I put a printer into the PDF preference in Quark? Or how do I fix it?
I think, even with the PDF Xtension, you still need to have Adobe distiller (from the full $ Acrobat version) to create PDFs. As far as I know, the Xtension just helps to automate the process.
But I could be wrong; I've had the Distiller since before Quark offered the Xtension, so I've never tried it without Distiller. Any others want to contradict my experience?
To create a PDF u have to get DISTILLER installed on ur system.
There are two things when you install ACROBAT. One is PDF writer and the other Acrobat Distiller.
If u choose PDF writer in the Printer option in Print dialog box and press PRINT, it will create a .pdf file directly.
If u choose Acrobat Distiller in the Print dialog box and press PRINT, it will create a .ps file which can be opened in Distiller inorder to create a PDF file.
1. do confirm that while installation u select the distiller and pdfwriter to be installed in the "custom" installation.
2. do remember to select either the adobe distiller or the pdfWriter from the print dialog box>printer(for windows).
click the adobe acrobat pdfwriter in the chooser window(pls read the message carefully for changing the settings) and then u will be able to make the .pdf file(for mac).
3. .ps files are created when u choose the distiller in the print dialog box.(make it sure that u know the location it is saving and do provide the .ps extention to the file name).
this .ps file when open and run in distiller again would then be converted to an .pdf file.
Dear,
In order to make the PDF file plese install Adobe Acrobat distiller in your machine. Once you install the Distiller then activate QuarkXPress. Go to the Preferences. In PDF preference, browse the Acrobat Distiller by clicking the browse button.
To find out where the AcroDist.exe is - try finding it from the Windows Search option.
Once you browse the specified the AcroDist.exe, try making the PDF.
Hope this help,
