Quark 6: Pictures preview not accurate

I found out (and was completely frustrated to find out) that pictures imported to Quark don't preview properly. In 100% preview size, it's pretty fine, but as soon as i magnify the preview to larger than that, I usually get a white edge on the left and the bottom of the box (I used the fit-box-to-picture command before). It PRINTS fine, but it's impossible to work precisely this way. We often use bitmap TIFFs of Logos etc., and these need to be placed precisely. But it's the same for EPS, Tiffs JPG's ... Outline EPSes seem to be even worse.
I am working with a G5/1.8, OSX 10.2.7 (preinstalled), an Apple Cinema and a Studio display.

Anyone had the problem before. Or even better: know what to do to solve the problem?

faq260-3087 might give you some information about how to improve the way your images display on screen.

The white edges might be another issue, though. Just to be clear, you create a picture box, get picture, and fit box to picture (not fit picture to box, which will give you a different result). It's possibly related to the preview image being inaccurate, or it could be that the image itself has white in it (especially the TIFFs and JPGs). If that's the case, you'll need to crop your image a little more.

Try looking at the FAQ and use one of the methods to improve the preview image. If that doesn't help, let us know.

I did read FAQ260-3087, but I agree, my problem seems to be another issue.

It definitely has to do with the way Quark 6 (to be clear: the same files look fine in 5!) displays previews. If I crop the pictures manually - no matter if I use Hi-Res Preview or not - I will have part of the picture cut off on the left and the bottom. If I use "fit box to picture", I get this white edges on the monitor, but the print is fine. In many cases, I can actually life with that, but the problem is that you are never sure what you get when you rely on the preview. It's simply not WYSIWYG.

And I did notify Quark on that, hoping that they are aware of this problem and fixing it in one of the next fixes, but it's as always: No reaction.

That's a pity. If you do hear anything, let us know how you got on. I haven't upgraded to Quark 6 yet, so I'm always interested to hear of potential problems!
