New Mac Powerbook G4 with 10.2.8 installed. Quark version 6 installed. (Quark v.4 is also installed in my system 9 applications folder.) First time to really work on a project using version 6. I'd saved several times after copying and pasting from MS Word. Suddenly, when I tried to save, I got the "Can't find requried volume or folder -35" message, which I used to also occasionally get in version 4. In Quark 4 this was always solved by my replacing a photo that had been reworked. But all I was doing this time using version 6 was copying and pasting some type. By the way, this was an old 4.11 doc that I opened and resaved in 6. How can I avoid this message? I see that it was an identified problem in 4, but was supposedly fixed.

May be redundant, but di dyou try to fix it in Q4 first and then save it as 6 in Q6?

Do you have Norton Utilities, or any antivirus software on your machine? Either may cause this symptom. Removing all traces of antivirus and Norton Utilities software helps Quark 6 dramatically.

I've had this happen - couldn't do a save or a "save as" with the same name. So I did a "save as" with a new name & it let me do it. Then I deleted the old one & continued working in the new one. I made a copy at that stage just in case the new version choked again but didn't need it.

This error "Can't find requried volume or folder -35" has shown its ugly head on my system, as well.

I believe (cannot verify) this happens when:

1. a network drive is mounted and accessed by Quark (such as a server based IMAGES folder, or similar) and then the Drive is unmounted while the same file is still open.
2. a missing image link to a file that has moved while the file was open.

If i'm not mistaken, I have had to restart Quark to fix this. I also had to "SAVE AS to another location, but this did not work 100% of the time.

I would love a workable solution.

Same problem here. Norton Antivirus was the culprit.

I simply turned off the autoscan feature that makes Norton scan the desktop files and the problem dissappeared.

I've had the same issues with quark 6. I'm certainly glad there is an answer to why this is happening, but what about virus protection. Should a person go without? If you turn autoscan off, then doing everthing manually is not very productive. Has anyone talked to symantec about the problem?

I 've recently had a chat with Symantec, they said

...this issue was addressed in the update for Norton AntiVirus 9. If you are already have this update, are you having problems with only one particular file or with all Quark files? If it is only one file (and its backups), then it could be that the file is corrupt and needs to be recreated...

I'm using Systemworks 3 (Norton AV9 is bundled) on a Panther G5/QX6/Suitcase X1 and have had no joy at all. There are all sorts of issues going on here...

I had the same problem.

Quark has issued a patch for this problem. You can download the upgrade for Version 6.1.

It has worked for me so far, with Norton running auto.
