Quark 6.5 and Postscript printing

This is not going to be one of the usual questions, I hope. lol

I just got a Dell 3100cn Color Laser Printer that is networked and LV3 compatable. Every one of my programs seems to handle it well and printing is a breeze except for Quark 6 and 5. They both generate an error on the printer that says "Tnvalid job" and have to be cancelled.

The steps I've tried are this:
-changed printing mode to ASCII which made the error not show right away.

-tried setting it up via appletalk, no go

What I found when setting it up for the main system is that it like using LPN as it's communitcation method. All of the other software such as InDesign uses the Printer Setup Utility printers to print but Quark has that PPD manager which I think is where the trouble is.

Any thoughts?

Soory but this reply is not going to help you. But you seem to know a bit about printing solutions. I am having a problem getting the printer ppd's to into the auxillary folder in the ppd manager utility under the utilities menu in quark. As a consequnce of this i cannot print as no Printer description come up when i go to print and the then quark gives me the answer 'cannot open the printer driver when i hit the print button. I now this is not going to help you but if you can give me an answer i will certainly give your problem a see to.

R u sure that you have printers installed in your printer set up utility (if on mac 10.3)if yes try setting up a virtual printer with printer address as 127.0.0.1 .Tell me if it is happening with a particular doc which was made in older version of Quark then i have another solution for you.

Here are some more details of the problem which will hopefully give you a better undersatnding of it. I am working on quark 6.1 using OS 10.3. The printers are on a network. All the other programmes such as illustrator and photoshop print but quark does not. the problem is not specific to any one file and i am not using an older quark file. Up till last friday everything worked ok. I also have another mac on the network and this works ok. I have put the same settings for this mac (such as it was using appletalk on a local network and not an ip address) into the one with the printing problem but it still does not work. The printer drivers show up on the print centre. But they don't show up on the auxilary folder in the PPD manager in quark. When I go to the folder that the drivers are in they are not highlighted. Consequently when i go to print in quark it says it 'cannot open printer". And then it gives me an error. Hope this information gives a clearer picture. I will try the virtual printer and get back to you if it works.
