I've reviewed the recent threads about creating PDFs from Quark 6.1 but haven't found any answers to my problems.
To create a PDF, I used the PRINT command, clicked the PRINTER button and did a "SAVE as PDF". This created a PDF but the print window was too small and cut off the footer type. I need to be able to open this print area to show all of the page content.
On perhaps a related issue, I don't have "Export layout to PDF" as an option under FILE>EXPORT>. There is only a grayed out "HTML". When I demo'd v.6.x, I did see that option and used it (within the 5 initial days). However, when I sent the PDF to the client, they said that the pages printed all black (I didn't get a whole lot of follow-up from them on this). The files looked and printed fine on my system.
Are the two aforementioned methods of creating PDFs capable of generating high-res PDFs as you got when writing an EPS file and Distilling it?
I am on Panther 10.3.3 (dual 500MHz G3). I have a legally upgraded QX 6.1 from 5.x. I installed the "QuarkPDF.dylib" file dated 2/23/04. I have Acrobat 5.0 (runs in Classic). Should I still be able to save the whole document from Quark as an EPS file then Distill it? I can't find an option to save the whole doc as EPS in QX 6.1. Not even from the print dialog. When using QX 5, I used the script that created the EPS file and ran Distiller. Is this no longer an option with QX 6.1 and Panther? Will having Acrobat 6.0 return the needed functionality for getting Quark to directly create PDFs?
This is getting long, so to summarize:
- How can I open up the print window when creating a PDF using the "SAVE as PDF" function in the Print dialog?
- How do I get "Export layout to PDF" back as an option under FILE>EXPORT>?
- Do these methods create hi-res PDF files that a commercial printer can use?
- How do I get back the workflow of creating an EPS file then distilling it?
- Can this be done with Acrobat 5.x? (I know, wrong forum for this question)
Thanks, and I'm in a real crunch if that matters...
