Hi,
We have a few users with Quark 4.11 and a few with Quark 5. The Quark 4.11 users are having no trouble Getting Text. But when going to Get Text in QXP 5.01, it doesn't "see" Word documents.
In this case these are older word documents (MS Word 5, 5.1). But I've noticed it with QXP 5 and MS Word docs in general.

So I theorize that it's related to the OLE Extensions, but the Macs in question have Microsoft OLE Extensions. Is there something weird about which OLE extensions they should have?

Is there something wrong with the MS Word filters for QXP 5.01? I note there is a Word 6-2000 filter, but nothing specifying pre Word 6 files. Is THAT the source of the problem?? That would be monumentally lame.

Can someone give me suggestions? Are there OLE extensions on the QXP 5 install disc I'm overlooking or can pull onto the mac in question? Is there a Word 3-5 filter Xtension for Quark 5?
Or maybe something to download somewhere?

Oh and GRRR to Quark for having lousy keyword searches at their website-- and for having the forums off when I need them most! :-(

I'm sort of stuck and beating my head against the wall.
Thanks in advance,

Jon Olsen

Thanks Thom. I went ahead and tried that, but the Quark 5's we have already have the word 6-2000 filter installed. So that indicates to me that's not going to do it.

I'm almost sure now that it's a pre v.6 problem, since I was able to pull in a Word 98 doc on my QXP 5, but not Word 5.

The word files we're not seeing are pre-version 6. Which shouldn't be a problem, right because supporting a newer version should also grandfather the old versions in? But I'm kind of thinking it doesn't do that in this case. Did they 'burn their bridges' when moving up to QXP 5, assuming that anyone with a modern Quark v.5 is going to also not be working with people who don't use modern versions of MS Word?? Doesn't that leave the Word 4, 5, 5.1 users in the lurch?

I'm still open to suggestion though!
