We just purchased a new Emac.

We would like to install Quark 3.31 on this machine.

Will this old software work on the new Mac?

Any help is apprciated

It should run in classic mode, but may cause you some extra setup work such as installing seperate fonts into an OS9 font folder.

Will it help if I tell you I got 3.31 working fine in Classic on a G5? And in Panther, no less?

I use Font Agent Pro to manage my fonts in both X and Classic, and I installed ATM Lite because OS X font rendering doesn't carry over into Classic. [Or maybe it just doesn't carry over into Quark, I'm not sure about that.] If you're going to do this for any extended period of time you'll want to install Type Reunion to group your fonts together in the Font menu, but I didn't bother because for me this was just a temporary solution.

Um. What else? Oh, yeah, you know that in Classic you have to set up your printer in the Chooser, right? And you'll want to go to Version Tracker and download the Classic Redraw XTension because somehow in the interaction between Quark and Classic screen redrawing gets all bickety.

Thanks for the help, guys.

I'm trying to convince the boss that it would best serve our interests to upgrade.

I'll keep trying...

An upgrade would most likely result in increased productivity because Quark continues to add useful features with each release. And theoretically, version 6 running natively in OSX should fly.
