Here's the environment:

Sun Fire V250 running Solaris 9, connected via Fiber to a new Quantum i500 scalar with 4 LTO-3 FC drives. The Sun Server has 2 Dual Channel QLogic 2342 cards. When I run inquire -lc I am seeing the tape drives, but not the changer. I am configuring by running:

# lus_add_fp_devs

Updating /usr/kernel/drv/lus.conf

Found Sun StorEdge(TM) HBA device: /devices/pci@1c,600000/fibre-channel@2/fp@0,0:devctl
Found Sun StorEdge(TM) HBA device: /devices/pci@1c,600000/fibre-channel@2,1/fp@0,0:devctl
Found Sun StorEdge(TM) HBA device: /devices/pci@1d,700000/fibre-channel@2/fp@0,0:devctl

Mapping tape devices starting at target 1 connected via
HBA /devices/pci@1c,600000/fibre-channel@2,1/fp@0,0:devctl
Adding:
port WWN: 500308c09bd61001 as SCSI target 1

Mapping tape devices starting at target 2 connected via
HBA /devices/pci@1d,700000/fibre-channel@2/fp@0,0:devctl
Adding:
port WWN: 500308c09bd61095 as SCSI target 2

Mapping tape devices starting at target 3 connected via
HBA /devices/pci@1d,700000/fibre-channel@2,1/fp@0,0:devctl
Adding:
port WWN: 500308c09bd61091 as SCSI target 3

The changes made to lus.conf will not take effect until lus is reloaded.

If you are sure that no process is currently using lus to control
a tape library, then it may be safely unloaded.

Would you like to unload lus? (y/n) y

lus is not currently loaded

Would you like to load and configure lus using the newly modified lus.conf? (y/n) y

Would you like to run inquire? (y/n) y

The control path is set and when I run through the QLogic driver I can see the changer; however, not through "inquire'. Does anybody have any ideas?

Thanks for the reply. I talked to my Quantum FE and he explained that the i2000 has a FC switch in it and the i500 doesn't. We are directly connecting to the library, so that setting doesn't pertain to this environment. The feeling now is that it's a problem with NetWorker. I will try to upgrade from 7.2.2.Build422 to 494 and see if that makes a difference or not.

Thanks!

Hi,

its true that "normally" a Scalar I2000 has a Switch inside, but our not because we using LTO3 and there the Switch would be "overloaded" so also all out Drives and the Libary is directly connected to the (in our case Brocade) Switch.

So iam not sure if your SE is right !

Ill posted you a screenshot about the point i mean here:

Thanks for the information and screenshot!! I was able to resolve the problem myself by modifying the /usr/kernel/drv/lus.conf file to be:

name="lus" parent="fp" target=0 lun=0 fc-port-wwn="500308c09bd61005";
name="lus" parent="fp" target=0 lun=0 fc-port-wwn="500308c09bd61000";
name="lus" parent="fp" target=0 lun=1 fc-port-wwn="500308c09bd61001";
name="lus" parent="fp" target=0 lun=0 fc-port-wwn="500308c09bd61091";
name="lus" parent="fp" target=0 lun=0 fc-port-wwn="500308c09bd61095";

Where the library control path is "added" as
name="lus" parent="fp" target=0 lun=1 fc-port-wwn="500308c09bd61001";

I have the library configured and have been enjoying the 115 mb/s throughput to the new drives!!
