I have (5) G3si v11 switches using (IP)DCS for Name and Number display only. (No call center or shared voice mail)
We are planning to add to our network a Nortel 81C and the AVAYA folks suggested we change all 5 of the G3's from DCS to QSIG? Does this sound right?

Mike,

As far as I am aware, DCS is an Avaya proprietary networking protocol. QSIG is the ISO worldwide private networking standard, allowing Supplementary Services and Features to be passed amongst PBX’s of different manufacturers. Check out the Avaya website for the “Administration for Network Connectivity” (555-233-504 – Issue 1 – April 2000), appendix B “Private Networking” for the comparison between DCS and QSIG.

Good Luck.

In short yes. QSIG is the route to go between Avaya and NoN-Avaya switches. DCS and DCS+ are Avaya proprietary and will not function with a Nortel.
