What are the typical deafult QoS markings for an AVAYA 4621sw set. And - can someone share an exmple of a typical cisco ios config to accomdate the QoS on a cisco swtich/router. Many thanks

avaya uses DSCP 46 to mark the voice traffic

Dont forget Qos on switch is different to a Router. Layer 2 QoS (switch) uses CoS markings, by default when enabling this in the 46xx settings file Avaya use 6 for voice and Cisco uses 5 for voice so match them. Layer 3 Qos (Router) uses DSCP markings of 46 as Kevin says (standard switches do not see this and can't do anything with it).So you need the two for a good QoS setup :)

That only works for certain switches and will not work for the Router/Wan though :)

no point applying QoS to the WAN - once it leaves your connection and makes it way out in the wild, then the marked packets mean nothing!

Depends on the setup, we have sites linked via routers with dedicated links via virgin media where Qos is honoured (but only between the two sites obviously) :)

Denny,

well, give us a run down of what you have and what you have from connectivity etc?

What I tend to do is use a premium service from say Easynet LLU SDSL or at least the same ISP operates and both ends (not Griffin!)

If its mission critical and surestream for resilience, (4 bonded SDSL connections)

Decent VPN equipment between sites, like Cisco ASA or Watchguard.

My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.
