Hello there!

My company uses a CM4.1 setup with 200+ phones. I don't quite know how to describe my issue so I'll describe it the best I can. :)

Our Telco has provided us with a range of numbers, xxxx-100 to xxxx-400. xxxx-100 is the receptionist number, but all extensions are also reachable directly. My problem is that all outgoing calls are using the xxxx-100 number and the called party cannot tell which extension is the actual caller. Then they call back using the xxxx-100 number which puts a lot of strain on the receptionist.

Is there a way to have the Callmanager (or the voice switch) send out the full number? I can see the outgoing extensions directly ond the switch by using "sh isdn active" command, but the outgoing number shown on called party's phone is still xxxx-100... any way around this?

Any info would be greatly appreciated...

We just use the external phone number mask on the line that is dialing out. We configured that as we installed, and changing that in an existing system could be too time consuming. There may be a better place to configure this for a large number of phones.

Hello!

I appreciate the quick response.

This thing just fell into my lap because I've got ccna, I have no previous experience with CM so please bear with me :)

If this is the only way to go about it, one phone at a time, we'll bite the bullet and do it. What would this external mask look like?

Naturally, if you think of a different solution, I'd be glad to hear it :)

I found the external mask, it is possible to update it by using BAT but now I have a different issue...

BAT is unable to update external mask field on shared numbers. ALL our extensions are shared numbers, being shared between an user device profile and a phone profile (SEPxxxxxx).

Why is this so? How come a line number is not associated with a user device profile alone? This way I have to log out all users to perform a BAT update. Can I somehow log out all users at the same time?

I'm pretty new to Call Manager myself, but it sounds like your company is using extension mobility. Each phone has a profile, but then users also have a profile so that they can log into sets no matter where they are. Anyone else have any ideas that would make changing a quicker process for muddyfox1?

You can also mask the caller id at the route list level or the route pattern level. Much faster as long as you want every phone on the system to send its caller id with no exceptions.
If there are exceptions then on the phone level is the way to go and since you are using shared lines bat won't work as you already found out.

Ahem something strange is going on with this forum...

Here's my real post:

@phnechic: yes, we are using extension mobility. it comes in handy because people are being moved around the building almost on daily basis. this enables us to at least have the phones stay in place :)

@whykap: yes, every phone should send its caller id. At least until another managerial decision from above :)
we have no active route lists but there are route patterns, I'll insert a mask there and report back.

It works! :)

I've already managed to update some users by using BAT, but placing a mask on route patterns did the job once the CM service was restarted. Yes, we have quite a few route patterns, but nowhere near as many as we do phones. :)

Much appreciated, fellas!
