hello,
I'm configuring a PV-132T LTO2 jukebox in Networker 7.2 (RH EL 4).
In jbconfig it is automatically configured, and it works quite well (autodetected scsi jukebox).
But it configures it as a 19 slots' jukebox, with the 19th for cleaning.
But the PV132T jbox (LTO2) has 23 slots and I can allocate from 1 to 4 slots from cleaning: specifically I can only use slots from 20 to 23.
I would like to set up 2 clean cartridges in slot 22 and 23 and in this way:
- I loose slots 19-20-21 for data tapes
- I cannot set automatic cleaning in Legato, because it cannot access the slots.

Any hint on how to configure PV132T?
Thanks in advance.
Gianluca

The number of slots that are autodetected depends on how the jukebox presents itself. In this case i would suspect that the jukebox only presents 19 available slots. You can probably configure the jukebox, using the menu on it, and have it present 21 available slots and have 2 set aside for cleaning.
I´m not sure about PowerVault though, but Qualstar and STK jukeboxes usually allows this configuration by "disabling" the cleaning slots, which allows them to be used for regular data tapes. You can then set up autoclean from within NetWorker instead. Hope it helps!

Cheers!

The jukebox presents all slots themselves; it is not partitioned.
One thing to ask: if I plan not to use "autoclean" functionality of the jukebox itself, do I need to reserve slots for cleaning?
From the LCD panel of TL, if I configure 2 cleaning slots (that will be 22 and 23, no choice), then the jbconfig detects 21 slots. If I configure 4 cleaning slots (20, 21, 22, 23), then the jbconfig detects 19 slots...
So it seems that slots reserved for cleaning are not detectable from sw, aren't they?
Legato doesn't afford on library configuration....
If this is strue and I want to use Legato for cleaning, I suppose therefore that I have to configure 0 slots for cleaning....
But in that case, the jbconfig program gives an error.

jbconfig: error, SJI Failure[0x 29]: Hardware Error, Internal Target Failure

I can configure library so that the inquiry string returned to the host is one of:
* PowerVault 132T
* PowerVault 136T
* Scalar 24
* Scalar 100
I tried with 132T and scalar 24, as I saw in other threads, but the error is the same above if I configure 0 slots for cleaning at lcd panel and then run jbconfig command.

Thanks for your help.

Once the jukebox is created, you may of course manually change the values for the slots from the admin GUI.

Just make sure that the various number of slots make sense.

Like 605 said, you can manually change the values in the "Available slots" range on the jukebox object in NW admin.
And i don´t think you actually need to configure 0 cleaning slots on the jukebox. Just set 1 aside (23) but disable auto clean, those *should* be two separate choices in the menu but again, i´m not sure about PV jukeboxes. Then configure the Available slots (altough it should be correct already) to read 1-22 and then set Cleaning slots to 23.

Cheers!

Solved, even if I loose one slot....
Some verified points:
- Setting up 0 clean slots in TL led panel, then I receive a scsi error in jbconfig, so I have to allocate at least one slot (not further investigation of reasons).
- When you allocate n slots, these becomes invisible to sw host, also at physical point of view
- Legato sw and TL don't communicate at a cleaning cartridge level (at the beginning I supposed the contrary...)

So my solution has been:
- Set up 1 slot (number 23, no choice) for cleaning at TL led panel.
- Imported clean cartridge in that slot (see below the use)
- jbconfig run and a jukebox of 22 slots detected:
1-21 as available for data; 22 for cleaning
- imported a clean cartridge into the library, telling to the library that it is a data cartridge... (this was the missing trick ;-)
- eventually move media from inserted slot to slot number 22
- fill other slots with data cartridges

To test cleaning from Legato, I set up the device with "need clean" flag from nwadmin and cleaning operation is successfully performed by Networker at first device use.
I can backup successfully my data.
I also have the opportunity to use the clean cartridge in slot 23, not detected at all by sw, to perform manual clean activities directly from the library lcd panel, without interferring with sw.

Thanks to all for the inputs and suggestion

Bye,
Gianluca
