My dba insists there is a putty ssh client and psftp available for Solaris but I cannot find them. Does anyone know if they're available? If not, are there other SSH clients available for Solaris?

Thanks much, in advance!

The putty executable allows you to make ssh connections to machines on port 22...

after reading that, maybe I misunderstood...
are you looking for a putty executable to sit on the solaris machine or are you talking about using putty to access a solaris machine??

I have putty and psftp (an SFTP client) installed on my Windows 2000 notebook and use them to connect to servers via SSH. I have a Sun Ultra 60 running Solaris 8 in my cube as well that needs to connect to the same servers via SSH.
Are putty and psftp available for my Solaris 8 workstation? If not, what else would work?

Thanks again!

I don't know of any GUI type app like putty for solaris...
putty seems to be strictly windows...
Why not instally openssh on the solaris box??

Putty (not the other "Putty" utils) do not have UNIX ports - yet. See:

I downloaded the newest version of OpenSSH from sunfreeware.com. I installed a necessary prerequisite patch and support packages (zlib and OpenSSL). For almost a day, I tried and tried to get OpenSSH to compile without success. ./configure kept stopping at "OpenSSL version header not found". I could not get past this. Finally, I found a compiled binary at It is OpenSSH 3.5p1 and installs as a package. DBA is happy, for now.
